Red Ribbon Week Celebrated

Students at USD 239, along with schools across the Nation, celebrated Red Ribbon Week from October 23rd through October 31st. Red Ribbon Week is a nationally recognized school event designed to fight drug and alcohol abuse among America’s youth. Students are urged to say “No” to drugs and alcohol. Each student was provided a Red Ribbon Bracelet to wear throughout the week as a reminder of the “drug free” event.

This year’s theme was “Believe, Achieve, Succeed Drug Free”. Each morning information about drugs and alcohol was given during the announcements. The daily message was reinforced with a candy slogan.

Students at MGS were given playground equipment with drug and alcohol prevention messages printed on them. This will provide ongoing reminders to the students for the remainder of the school year. The equipment will be added gradually to keep the message current in their minds. Students at MGS were also given activity books and bookmarks to reinforce the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices.

Joe Allen, Attorney at Law, presented an assembly to the MJSHS students making them accountable for their actions. The presentation focused on the legal consequences of drug and alcohol abuse. Mr. Allen explained how one negative choice to use or abuse can forever alter the success of one’s future.
