The MHS Boy's Golf team had a very successful time this past week, winning two tournaments. On Tuesday, they captured the Bennington Invitational at the Minneapolis Golf Course and on Friday, they won the Sacred Heart Invitational at the Salina Municipal Course.
In the Bennington Tournament, Logan Wedel paced the Lions winning the Individual Medalist title with a 78, while Grayson George finished 5th with an 83, Charlie Lynn 6th with an 83, and Andrew Yoxall 9th with an 88. Those four scores combined to give MHS a score of 332, 3 strokes better than runner-up Clay Center. Connor Collins had a 95 and Garrett Pounds a 102.
At Salina, George led the attack with a 79, taking 2nd as an individual, while Wedel was 5th with an 81, and Lynn 6th with an 84. Connor Collins completed the four man score with a 95 to give the Lions a score of 339, 9 strokes better than runner-up Hillsboro. George and Wedel combined to shoot a 160 to take the gold medal in the Two-Man portion of the tourney. Yoxall shot a 96 and Pounds a 98 to finish out the scoring.
"It has been exciting to see these guys have the success they are having. The growth of the team balance and depth has been very key in these wins. Having multiple individual medalists has been huge but just as important is the continued development of the rest of the team that is giving us multiple scorers to use in the team scoring. Having your number 5 and 6 golfers both under 100 is not common our level."
This week the Lions travel to Ellsworth for the Bearcat Invitational on Thursday.
