Someone We Know

by Jake Eckert

November 19, 2009

"Is he going to make it?" someone chimed?

"Just wait for it," I replied. Then suddenly a white streak zoomed by just in the nick of time, for the bell rings out as he disappears down the stairs of the locker room.

"That's my boy," I exclaimed as everyone scurries off to class.

This person would at first glance appear to be your everyday teenager, but those who know him will tell you otherwise. He stands at a solid six feet two inches and weighs in at a whopping one hundred and sixty-five pounds. A thick, deep brown, garden of hair covers his head. It curls up around his ears and reminds one of waves crashing into the shoreline. South of his hair is a long face with one of the orneriest grins known to mankind. His head sits atop a very lengthy and slender body. On the back of his legs, just underneath his knees, sits these mammoth sized calves that let him jump to the moon. And to finish it all off, he has two enormous feet that at first glance one may mistake for flippers that people use when they scuba dive. His greatest physical feature would have to be his eyebrows. They give away his mood like Santa gives toys. When they are arched and high up on his forehead, he is having a good day. But when they are straight as an arrow, looking like two dashes going across his forehead, then you know that he probably just took an algebra test and is not the happiest person on earth.

This person is in no way a "follower." He marches down his own path and stands for what he believes in even when it seems everyone in the world disagrees with him. He is as funny as water is wet. He can do one of the best monkey impressions known to mankind. And if there is ever a prank or practical joke played on someone, you can bet money he was in on it. He has a sixth sense in which he can detect distress. He always knows when something is wrong and is constantly trying to help fix everyone else's problems. When he walks, it is with an air of confidence. Not so much that people think he's cocky, but enough to not get walked all over by everyone else.

One of my buddy's best attributes is his sense of adventure. He thinks it would be amazing to be dropped off out in the wilderness and left to see if he could survive on his own. If anyone could do it, it would be him. He has got the determination to do it and the mental strength of an iron chain. It also helps that he watches Man vs. Wild every chance he gets. He is also always game for trying new things and going to new places. He has a work ethic that is unmatched and works hard at everything he does. He has a deep passion for music that sometimes can be mistaken as an obsession. A good day to him is sitting in his basement playing his guitar all day. His word stands like a rock and is as reliable as the sun rising tomorrow morning. If you can find me someone who doesn't like him because they think he is a rotten person then I'll show you a flying pig. This person is one of the few genuinely good people in this world, and he should be proud of who he is. If you do not know who this person is, maybe you should open your eyes and get to know your friends a little better.
