Getting the Most out of Life

Have you ever wondered about the monotonous saying that goes “Always take the road less traveled” by Robert Frost? This quote, in essence, means to do what is best for you so that you can get the most out of your life. This is a task that takes time but is rewarding in the end. The steps to living your life to the fullest are not hard but are mainly simple little things that you can do to improve your life.
One of the steps to getting the most out of your life is to help others. An example of going the extra mile could be seen in the movie Radio. The coach on that movie was a person who left an impression on many people by helping and including a young boy who had mental disabilities, making him the manager of a high school football team. This not only made the boy feel better about himself, but it also made the coach feel as if he had done good in the world.
There will be times in your life when you are having a really bad day, and then you drop your books in a busy hallway where people are constantly pushing and shoving to get to their classes. A simple way for someone to make your day just a little bit better would be for them to help you pick up the books and loose papers that flew from your arms as someone pushed you from behind.
So next time you are walking down the hallway and you see someone drop some books, or if you can tell that they are having a bad day, help them. Even a smile can help brighten someone’s day. If you smile at someone, then the person you smiled at will smile at someone else and the chain goes on. In time, this generosity will come full circle, and you can feel the impact of your actions.
Another way to live your life to the fullest is to be positive. Nobody likes a Debby Downer or a Negative Ned. The phrase ‘the glass half full’ applies here. For example if you have to work, you can think, “Man, I have to work.” This is a negative way of thinking. Instead, you can think, “Well, I have to work but I am getting paid for it.” Thinking positively helps reduce your stress, making you feel better and have a positive outlook on life.
By the time of your death, do you want to be able to look back on your life and be proud and happy with what you accomplished? Using these steps will help you fulfill your life. It may even make you live longer. You might still die at the same age that you would have if you did not change your ways, but at least you would know you had a good life.
