Lions Drop Last Game

by Erik Shupe

October 17, 2009

Minneapolis Lions traveled to Beloit for their last junior high football game of the year.  The B team took the field first and ran into a buzz saw.  Beloit jumped out quickly to an 8-0 lead and never looked back.  The B team fought hard, but self-inflicted wounds on offense and a Beloit offense that ate up yards proved to be too much.  Beloit took a 36-0 victory and the Lions dropped to 3-3 on the season.

The A-team took the field next in a battle of "unbeatens" as both teams fielded 6-0 records and tough defenses.  For the season the Beloit defense had been scored on just once and the Lion defense had yielded two scores all year. Beloit jumped out early to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter, but as promised, both teams defense controlled the rest of the half.  The Lions went into half down 8-0, but not out.  The second half the Lions struggled to move the ball, but held tough on defense.  Beloit was able to score early in the fourth for a 14-0 lead.  The Lions were forced to go for it on fourth down in their own territory several times, but were unable to get it done.  Beloit reeled off 3 scores playing with a short field in the fourth and the Lions mustered a late score to make it 28-6 Beloit.

I would like to thank the players, coaches, and parents for an outstanding season.  It was a lot of fun and I couldn’t be more grateful for the effort and character that the boys and their parents displayed throughout the season.
