MJH Lions Split With Knights
by Erik Shupe
September 28, 2009
The Junior High football team traveled to Sacred Heart for their first road test of the season. The B-team took the field hoping to add to their first 3 wins of the season. The young Lions played solid defense throughout the contest, holding the Knights to just 14 points. Unfortunately, the Lions struggled to produce much offense, as Sacred Heart shut down the Minneapolis ground game to pitch a shut out. The 14-0 loss was the first of the season for the B-team.
Like the
B-team, the A-team was hoping to add to their undefeated season,
and like the B-team, the A-team ran into a tough opponent.
Sacred Heart jumped out on the Lions with an early score.
Minneapolis struggled to generate much offense as they
fumbled on what appeared to be two good drives. Down 6-0
entering the second quarter, the Lions' defense stiffened and the
offense got clicking as the Lions scored 2 touchdowns in the second
quarter to go up 16-6 at the half.
Apparently the
Lions were just getting warmed up as the defense picked off Sacred
Heart twice and the Lions' ground game completely dominated the
entire second half. The Lions dominated the second half on
both sides of the ball to shut out the Knights in the second half,
while scoring 3 more touchdowns of their own to garner a 37-6
victory.
The Lions will be back in action again Thursday, October 1, in Kanopolis. The B-team game will start at 5:00, followed by the A-team game around 6:00.
