Jr. High Football Off to a Good Start

Both the A and B football teams have jumped out to 2-0 starts this season. The B team downed Republic County 36-0 and Russell 14-8. The A team defeated both Republic County and Russell 41-0. Each team has used some stout defense along with tough ground games to come out on top.
The B team wasted little time in its first match up of the season jumping out on Republic County with a long kickoff return, and eventually a 20-0 lead at the half. The second half saw more of the same as the young lions continued to churn out yards with their option attack. The defense was solid all night limiting the Buffaloes to 3 and outs on nearly every possession.
The
Russell Broncos proved to be more of a challenge as they brought a
tough wishbone offense to Minneapolis. Again the Lions jumped
out early with a long first quarter touchdown run. The
Broncos would not go away and were able to keep the Lions ground
game in check for most of the night. Late in the fourth they
scored to go on top 14-8, but the Broncos mounted a late drive to
put the game in jeopardy. Fortunately the Lions were able to get
the stop to preserve the win.
The
A-team matched up with a very physical and large team from Republic
County. However, it was the Lions who were able to impose
their will churning out large chunks of yards in the first half as
they jumped out to a 20-0 lead. The second half saw more
offense this time in the way of spread passing game. The
result was the same as the offense put up 21 more points and the
defense continued to stifle the Buffaloes en route to a 41-0
victory.
The Lions got off to a slow start against Russell, not scoring until late in the first quarter. But from that point on it was all Minneapolis as the Lions completely dominated an overmatched opponent. Doing most of their work from ground, the Lions reeled off another 41-0 point performance as the defense again shutdown another opponent while pitching its second consecutive shut out.
The
Lions will be in action twice this next week, hosting Washington at
5:30 (A-team only) and traveling to Sacred Heart to play a 5:30 B
team contest and a 6:45 A team contest.
