The MHS National Honor Society (NHS) sponsored an American Red Cross blood drive on Friday, March 26, in the high school gymnasium. Members of the staff, student body, and the community volunteered to donate blood. The NHS members provided a variety of delicious food for the canteen, and also worked as escorts throughout the day.
A total of 67 units of blood were collected, with 27 first time donations. NHS sponsor Cynthia Beall commented, "We appreciate everyone in the school and community who participated to make this a successful day!"
According to the American Red Cross web site, http://www.redcrossblood.org/learn-about-blood/blood-facts-and-statistics,
- Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood.
- More than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day.
- A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood.
- One donation can help save the lives of three people.
