With the regular season over, the real fight began for the Lady Lions basketball team, who defeated Ellsworth and lost to Beloit in the second round of 3A Substate held in Beloit.
As the #2 seed, the Lions played a home game against the Ellsworth Bearcats. It was the third matchup between the two teams, with Minneapolis winning the last two regular season games. “It felt really good to win my last game at Minneapolis High School, they were a good team to start out our sub-state against,” said senior Connor Fulton.
Even though it’s unlikely for a team to beat another three times, the Lady Lions came away with a victory against the Bearcats, advancing to the semi-finals of 3A Sub-State.
With Beloit winning over Norton during the first round, the Lions ended up playing the Trojans. Even with a well-fought game, the Lady Lions came up short losing to Beloit only by 6. This ended the Lion’s hopes of going to the State Finals.
“I was really upset about the loss because it was my last high school game, but I was really happy that I got the chance to play with the girls I did. We got really close by the end of the year and I liked all the effort we put in against Beloit,” said Shea Shoemaker the other senior for the Lions.
The Minneapolis girls ended the regular season with a 16-4 record.
