Lions Thrash Area Opponents

Football Team Advances in District Play

October 16, at Martin Stadium in Salina, the Minneapolis Lions took on the Sacred Heart Knights in a lop-sided affair.

The game’s momentum went in favor of Sacred Heart right out of the gate as they completed a 50+ yard touchdown pass.  The Knights were in what they thought was a position to take the game over.

The Lions, however, had other plans. They would answer those points Sacred Heart scored with 45 of their own.  On top of lighting up the scoreboard, the Lions also shut down the Knights offensive attack completely and didn’t allow them another point in the entire game.

The final score of the game was Minneapolis 45 Sacred Heart 6. The Lions finished the game with 6 touchdown passes as well as a rushing touchdown.

Against Solomon was a similar result.  After a Minneapolis fumble on the first play offensive of the game, the Lions answered by intercepting a Solomon pass on the second offensive play of the game.

The score would remain manageable going into the locker room at the end of the first half at 21-6; however the Lions buckled down and took care of business in the third quarter as they scored 26 points in less than 15 minutes.

The final score of the game came out as 53-14.  Kyler Moody said about the game, “I really feel content about the way we played in the second half.  We came together with a sort of symbiotic balance and we were very methodical and efficient.”

The Lions take on a cross county rival this Thursday (Oct. 29) in a game that has district title implications.  Casy Arganbright said about the upcoming game, “If we go out there and play football like we know we can, I don’t see many teams that can stop us, especially any in Ottawa County!”
