The Minneapolis Lions football team just came off their second game and first loss of the season last week at home against a talented 2A squad. After a convincing win in week one, against the Ellsworth Bearcats that ended in a final score of 50-18, the Lions took on the Mustangs of Valley Heights.
From the very beginning of the game it was apparent that it would be decided by who could make the least mistakes. Unfortunately for the Lions, Valley Heights was that team. The entire first quarter was a complete defensive lockdown by each team that sent both teams on multiple three and outs.
However, the second quarter would see the only two touchdowns in the game, both were scored by Valley Heights. The rest of the second half would remain a smash mouth battle in the trenches between the two fronts and despite the stout Minneapolis defense putting them in position multiple times, the Lions offense could never take advantage of their opportunities to put points up.
Though the Lions lost on Friday night, their season is far from lost for the remainder of the year. With their nucleus of solid players, they should have a legitimate chance for the league title, as well as a deep run into the playoffs.
