One Foot in Front of the Other

MHS cross country starts the year off strong

by Shelbi Hamilton

October 11, 2009

The MHS cross country team in its third year is stronger and bigger than ever before.  The team consists of 6 seniors--Dillon Hackett, John Corman, Logan Wedel, Kyle Egger, Kendall Perry, and Morgan Halderson; 4 Juniors--Spencer Roy, Shelbi Hamilton, Kylee Gragg, and Emma Giles; 4 sophomores, Collin Trickle, Weston Penn, Daryl Simmons, and Kory Egger; and 2 freshmen--Isaac Kuder and Anna Trahan.

The team has competed in two meets so far.  The first meet was at Lincoln with deadly hills, but that didn't stop the team.  The boys placed 1st with individual medalists being Dillon Hackett, Garrett Daugherty, and Collin Trickle.

The girls placed 4th at Lincoln with individual medalists being Shelbi Hamilton, Kylee Gragg, and Anna Trahan.

The team then competed at Hesston the following week in the mud and rain.  Individual medalists were Anna Trahan, Collin Trickle, Shelbi Hamilton, Kylee Gragg, Garrett Daugherty, Kendall Perry, and Dillon Hackett.  Hesston is the biggest meet that the team attends, and each member performed outstandingly.

When asked what is your favorite thing about cross country, Senior Morgan Halderson replied, “The best feeling is after the race, not so much in the middle, because it’s horrible and you want to quit but you can’t.”
